A graduate of Harvard University, Alex Schemmer has also studied with faculty at the New England Conservatory, the American Repertory Theater, England's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and with the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles. While at Harvard, he performed as a member of the historic Hasty Pudding Theatricals and sang with the Harvard Krokodiloes (a twelve-man a cappella group) with whom he traveled to over twenty countries including Thailand, Australia, Zimbabwe, Switzerland, and Peru.


Alex has appeared in the feature films The Yellow Wallpaper, Bleached, The Awakening of Spring, My Funny Valentine, 15 North, Born to Race: Fast Track, and Ben Affleck’s ARGO; the television series "Dexter," “CSI: New York.” “iCarly,” "What About Brian," “Raising the Bar,” “Days of Our Lives,” “House, M.D.,” “Cougar Town,” “Big Love,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Undercovers,” “Weeds,” “Community,” “Modern Family”; and countless commercials and music videos.  He was also featured in the CBS pilot "Demons" and starred in the Showtime Network's pilot presentation "Shadow Point." The LA Times praised him as “captivating” for his performance as Romeo in Shakespeare Orange County's Romeo & Juliet, and he appeared as Richard Loeb in the critically acclaimed LA premiere of the two-man show “Thrill Me: the Leopold and Loeb Story,” which received a L.A. Ovation nomination and won a Backstage Garland Award for “Best Ensemble Performance.” He starred in the short film “Lost in a Sense” which premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, “Grow” which opened the shorts program at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and was the lead in feature film “15 North” which won “Best Feature” in the Southeast New England Film Festival.              


Alex is also a writer for TV and Film. His first script RESPONSIBLE ADULTS was a semifinalist in the Nicholl Fellowship and winner of the Harvardwood Screenplay Competition.  Since then he developed the psychological thriller THE FURIES with Marc Platt Productions.  In TV, he worked as a writer/producer on Amazon’s MOZART IN THE JUNGLE which won the Golden Globe for “Best TV Comedy,” and has sold and developed numerous television pilots for NBC, CBS Studios, Lionsgate and HBO. Most recently he wrote on Season 3 of SHADOWHUNTERS on Freeform.
